On April 21, the H-beam production line of Baowu Masteel Co., Ltd. overcame industry technical challenges, successfully rolling out the world's thickest and heaviest hot-rolled H-beam. The newly produced hot-rolled section has a flange thickness of 165 mm and a weight of 1,509 kg per meter, making it the current global leader in both thickness and weight. Masteel has thus become the only company in the world capable of supplying products of this specification, further solidifying China's leading position in the global steel industry.
The successful development of this product has broken through the world's production size limits for hot-rolled H-beams and precisely filled a gap in the international high-end heavy section market. The product is primarily targeted at heavy equipment manufacturing applications such as ultra-large marine engineering, super-span and high-rise steel structure buildings, and nuclear power projects. It meets stringent requirements for high strength, high stability, and high resistance to lamellar tearing under extremely complex working conditions, providing essential core steel support for major global infrastructure construction.
During the R&D and production process, a series of industry-wide challenges emerged, including ultra-thick forming processes, dimensional accuracy control, and cross-sectional microstructure uniformity. Leveraging its world-leading heavy section professional production line and its full-process technical advantages, Masteel assembled a dedicated technical team. Building on existing high-end equipment, the team optimized process controls, and innovatively refined rolling processes, temperature control techniques, and composition designs, overcoming production bottlenecks one by one. Through precise regulation of the entire production process, all product performance indicators have reached internationally leading standards, with dimensional accuracy exceeding industry norms, successfully achieving stable production of these extreme-sized products.
