China Fruit and Vegetable Juice (HS: 2009) 2023 Latest Import and Export Analysis

Issuing time:2023-12-08 Author:Alisa Cheng Back to list

Fruit and vegetable juice is a liquid beverage obtained by extracting juice from fruits and vegetables. This type of beverage is typically made from fresh fruits and vegetables using juicers or other extraction methods. Fruit and vegetable juice is popular in the market because it can provide a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants while offering a refreshing taste. However, in recent years, the fruit and vegetable juice market has been in decline, partly due to the demand for reduced sugar and other factors.

According to customs data, the overall export value of Chinese fruit and vegetable juice showed an upward trend from 2018 to 2021. However, the export value in 2018 reached 738 million USD, but it declined to 528 million USD in 2019, representing a 28.46% decrease during the same period. Since 2021, it has gradually increased, while the domestic fruit and vegetable juice industry was in a stagnation period before that.

As of October 2023, China's total export value for the year reached 706.7 billion USD, showing an increase of 0.59 billion USD compared to the same period in 2022, with a growth rate of 8.3%. In terms of export quantity, there was a decrease of 137,300 tons in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, representing a decline of 33.3%. Looking at the average unit price, there was a 68.4% increase in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. This indicates that although the export quantity of Chinese fruit and vegetable juice products has decreased, the overall trend shows an increase in commodity prices.

The contraction and resurgence of the fruit and vegetable juice industry are closely linked to changes in consumer awareness and demand for health. As people's awareness of health and diet continues to rise, consumers are placing more emphasis on the nutritional value and health benefits of their food and beverage choices. Fruit and vegetable juice, rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other beneficial components, has become a highly regarded health beverage, as reflected in the product landscape.

Data from 2023 indicates a 9.01% increase in the market share of unmixed vegetable juice (HS: 20098920) compared to 2022. This growth underscores the heightened consumer interest in health-oriented products within the industry.

Internationally, China's exports of fruit and vegetable juice (HS: 2009) encompass a variety of flavors and types, including single fruit juice, mixed fruit and vegetable juice, and functional fruit and vegetable juice. The main export destinations include regions such as Asia, Europe, and North America, covering markets in countries like Thailand, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and others.

With the increasing focus on health and nutrition, the demand for natural, additive-free, vitamin- and mineral-rich fruit and vegetable juices may continue to rise. However, as "reducing sugar" becomes a significant trend in the global food industry, several regions in Europe and North America have implemented sugar taxes on beverages. Although fruit and vegetable juice is a natural beverage, its sugar content is not low. Therefore, low-sugar and sugar-free fruit and vegetable juices are likely to become a future trend in the fruit and vegetable juice industry.
