Analysis of Cocoa (HS: 18031-18032) Import and Export Customs Data in Cote d'Ivoire in 2022

Issuing time:2023-02-02 Author: Back to list

Cocoa is native to Central and South America and is widely cultivated in tropical regions around the world. It is also grown in China's Hainan and southern Yunnan. Cocoa thrives in warm and humid climates and on gently sloping land rich in organic matter. It is not suitable for growth in poorly drained and heavy clay soils or in areas frequently affected by typhoons.

Cocoa seeds contain several medicinal chemical components and are the main ingredient in the production of cocoa powder and chocolate candy. Cocoa is one of the world's top three beverages.

The decline in cocoa production due to global warming has had the greatest impact on the 10 largest cocoa-producing countries in the world, namely Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. Cocoa plays an important role in Côte d'Ivoire's export economy, making it particularly vulnerable.

According to customs data, the total cocoa exports of Côte d'Ivoire from January to November 2022 were 199,500 tons, an increase of 1.33% compared to the same period last year, with total export earnings of $610 million, a decrease of 9.18% compared to the same period last year.

Chinese cocoa is mainly exported to markets such as Indonesia, Russia, Germany, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The European market accounts for about 25.13% of the total, so Chinese exporting companies can also use data from Cote d'Ivoire to understand the cocoa purchasing situation in the European market and gain new insights into European buyers.
