The New Calling Card of Made in China

Issuing time:2023-01-05 Author: Back to list

In the long history of humanity, we have once again reached a crossroads in the transformation of transportation energy systems. The third transformation will involve the replacement of oil and internal combustion engines with electricity and power batteries (including fuel cells), ushering humanity into the era of clean energy. This third transformation of transportation energy systems will drive the economic takeoff of Asia and position it as the engine of the world economy, surpassing the United States. Under the pressure of energy and environmental concerns, it is undeniable that new energy vehicles will become the future direction of automotive development.

When it comes to new energy vehicles, China often comes to mind. Today, Chinese new energy vehicles are being sold worldwide, including in Europe, the birthplace of automobiles.

Data shows that currently, in Europe, every 10 new energy vehicles include 1 vehicle from China. Last year, China's new energy vehicles achieved impressive export results: in the first 11 months of 2022, China exported 2.78 million vehicles, surpassing Germany and becoming the world's second-largest automobile exporter. Among them, the export of new energy vehicles doubled compared to the previous year.

Chen Jia, the Chief of Inspection at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Customs, said, "The destination of these new energy vehicles is not Asia, Africa, or Latin America, but Europe, the long-established automobile industry base."

The dispatcher at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port also mentioned, "To increase the export volume, the port has implemented a reservation mechanism for trailers, confirmed transportation plans with customers, reserved space in advance, and improved the efficiency of inbound shipments."

At this time, Chinese vehicles are experiencing strong sales in Europe. Andrew, a sales representative, mentioned that this model of car is now being sold in over a dozen countries in Europe, with the number of sales outlets increasing from 65 in 2020 to nearly 650 now. They have high expectations for the sales of this car in the UK, where they sold 30,000 units in 2021 and 51,000 units in 2022. In the new year, they have set new sales targets.

The Sales Director of SAIC Motor MG UK stated that their sales target for 2023 is to exceed 70,000 units. Currently, there are more than a dozen Chinese new energy vehicle brands in the European market. In Norway, this car was just delivered this year and has already sold over 1,000 units in half a year, achieving the third-highest sales among large and mid-size luxury pure electric SUVs in Norway.

Data shows that Chinese new energy vehicles already account for 10% of the total sales of new energy vehicles in Europe. In 2021, the global export volume of Chinese new energy vehicles was approximately 550,000 units, with 40% sold in the European market. Chinese new energy vehicles are gaining increasing recognition among consumers.

Today, Chinese enterprises are leading the way in entering the most developed and core markets in Europe. China's automotive industry is rising, transitioning from being a major automobile producer to becoming an automotive powerhouse, with opportunities arising from electrification, intelligence, and globalization.

China's new energy vehicles lead the world in "three electric" technologies

Affordability is an advantage of Chinese manufacturing, but the success of domestically produced new energy vehicles abroad is not just about price but also stems from the competitiveness of the products themselves.

Today, China's "three electric" technologies, namely batteries, motors, and power electronics, are already leading globally. The greatest competitive strength lies in batteries, as more than half of the top ten global power battery manufacturers are from China. Cooperating with Chinese battery companies is the choice of many foreign enterprises.

Recently, Japan's Dafa announced that it would engage in strategic cooperation with a Chinese battery manufacturer in battery supply and battery technology. Shortly afterward, companies like Ford in the United States and BMW in Germany announced that they would adopt battery packs supplied by Chinese suppliers.

The development of China's new energy vehicles has followed a path of independent innovation, with the "three electric" technologies (batteries, motors, and power electronics) mostly independently developed by Chinese companies. The industrial layout is highly comprehensive, supporting the development of foreign brands in China.

Nowadays, China's capabilities in batteries, motors, and power electronics are far ahead globally. The current evolution of the Chinese automotive industry is rapidly moving towards electrification and intelligence, while Chinese automotive brands are redefining new energy vehicles.
