China Prefabricated Houses (HS: 94069000) Latest Annual Summary

Issuing time:2024-06-28 Author:Alisa Back to list

Prefabricated houses, also known as modular buildings or industrialized buildings, represent a modern construction method characterized by the pre-manufacturing of building components (such as walls, floors, beams, and columns) in factories. These components are then transported to the construction site for assembly, similar to "building blocks," to construct the entire building.

The market for prefabricated houses in China has developed rapidly in recent years, thanks to government support for industrialized construction, green buildings, and technological innovations within the industry.

According to customs data, in 2023, the total export value of Chinese prefabricated houses was USD 2,632,127,050, a decrease of 2.91% compared to the previous year, with a total export volume of 9,520,839 units. By April 2024, the export volume of Chinese prefabricated houses had reached 3,623,711 units, showing a year-on-year increase of 26.13%. From an export value perspective, the overall trend from 2018 to 2022 has been upward, growing from USD 1,507,528,643 in 2018 to USD 2,711,019,322 in 2022, an increase of approximately 80%. This indicates a sustained increase in global demand for Chinese prefabricated houses, highlighting the competitiveness and market share of Chinese manufacturers in the global construction industry.

Prefabricated houses are increasingly popular worldwide, particularly in densely populated markets with limited land resources and in disaster-stricken areas requiring rapid construction of temporary or permanent housing. As a major manufacturing country, China’s prefabricated construction technology and products are competitive in the international market. With the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese suppliers of prefabricated houses are actively expanding their overseas markets, exporting technology and products to regions such as Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

According to customs data, from 2023 to the present, China's export market for prefabricated houses can be analyzed from two perspectives. Firstly, in terms of export value, Chinese prefabricated houses are primarily exported to Asia, Europe, and North America, accounting for 44.32%, 22.46%, and 12.03% of the total export value, respectively. Major destinations include the United States, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany, and Malaysia. Secondly, in terms of export volume, the European market dominates, accounting for 58.39% of the total export volume. The main destinations within Europe include Poland, Germany, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain, which together make up 72.63% of the European market share.

Due to the rapid urbanization and infrastructure development in Africa and the Middle East, there is a strong demand for efficient and economical building solutions. These regions are emerging markets for Chinese prefabricated houses. China's advancements in BIM (Building Information Modeling), automated production, and other technologies have improved product quality and construction efficiency. By leveraging digital technology to enhance the intelligence of design, production, and construction, efficiency and customer experience are improved. To meet different market demands, more customized and differentiated products and services are offered. With the global emphasis on sustainable development, green, energy-efficient, and low-carbon prefabricated houses are becoming a development trend.

Overall, the export market for Chinese prefabricated houses has broad prospects. However, to sustain growth, challenges related to standards, logistics, and brand image need to be overcome. At the same time, new opportunities arising from technological advancements and green development should be seized.
